This time we’ll do anything

Oh we’re no strangers to work, we’ll tell them, truly. We’ve done jobs you’d never go near, we’ll say, truly. We’ve done the lowest jobs we could find. We must be masochists, we’ll say (we won’t say this). We do want to work. You can count on us, we’ll tell them, we don’t care about ourselves anymore, just don’t put us out on the streets, where we’ll surely be beaten and robbed and left for dead. We’re willing to work, no one’s more willing to work than us, that’s the only thing we ever wanted to do! To please! We’ve been idle, it’s true, far too idle. We’ve had too much time on our hands, we’ll tell them, we’ve let ourselves go. And once you let yourself go your imagination plays tricks with you, it’s true, the devil finds work for idle hands, we’re living proof. But we’re no strangers to work, we’ll tell them, when they evict us. We worked hard, once, it’s just that we never really felt like we were working. Our body did, it’s true, it did nothing but work, eat and sleep. We were exhausted. But our mind wasn’t in it, we know that now. But now it is, now we’re on board 110%, we’ll say. Because now we have no mind, you’ve taken our mind (we won’t say this). We’ve proved ourselves before and we’ll prove ourselves again, we promise. We’re wrong, something’s wrong with us, that much is clear, and we don’t want to be wrong, we want to be right and we’ll do anything to get right. We don’t want to be banished, we’re already banished, please don’t banish us, we’ll beat each other down, this time we’ll kill each other, this time we’ll do anything.
