Almost important

It almost looks important, I tell X, when I scribble in the pub, my smartphone and a pint of farm cider beside my notebook. Especially when I’m correcting a printout, I say. I’ll lean back, look away, look back and see the scribbles and arrows on the typed page as if for the first time. And what seemed like child’s play almost looks like real work! I say. Then I’ll check my mobile, pretending I’m expecting an important professional business text about the professional business document I’m correcting. It almost looks important, I say, it almost looks like something they’ll think worthwhile.
